Our girl gang of barrel racers and me in here for lunch today. Great service from a lovely lady. Thanks for your kindness. We all had a variety of food items. Beth and I split a Chicken dish and was just right portions. Kinda small splitting, but adequate. All us except one had water drinks. Food was good, pretty good...about normal/average for most chain restaurants. Nothing amazing. Beth and I rarely go to chain places and...probably would not return ourselves, given it was up to us. Was not today.
I haven't been to an Applebee's in a long time and was expecting the usual casual fare and service. We were given a good amount of time to decide what we wanted and ordered just fine. But then we were serviced our salads and had not been given any silverware. I tracked someone down and requested silverware. They brought three forks wrapped in one napkin. I asked what this was all about and was given explanations and statistics that knives were only used by a small percentage and people and spoons were almost never used, etc. The server even said that all this was for cost savings. Don't give me statistics, give me a full set of utensils. I have never had a restaurant be resistent to set the table properly with enough utensils to actually eat a meal. Not only did we not have utensils at first to eat the salads that were served, I felt I had to argue just to get knives. Force your patrons to ask for basic utensils? Not good. Want to save costs? Reduce the amount of salad dressing that is sent with the salads. There was twice as much dressing as required. There is more cost in dressings than in washing silverware.
The entire hour we were here the manager stood and talked with one of his friends. Servers couldn’t do their jobs properly as he stood in the way. The food was mediocre and not prepared the way the rest of the Applebee’s prepare it. Our server was very attentive and kind, prompt and well groomed. Our server was the only reason we would ever come back. Everything else was not up to Applebee’s standard. Step it up GENERAL MANAGER!
Last 2 times have been not so good. Staff is too busy and food is either over or under cooked.
I don't like how close the booths are to the tables. People kept literally bumping into my children's chairs. Very obnoxius. But the food was delicious!
